He Worked Continuously At Brandon Avenue. In February, 1940 He Received His 10 Year Service Pin When He Was Assistant Maintenance Manager In Winnipeg. In March, 1941 He Was Superintendent Of Engine Overhaul Depot At Stevenson Field. In February, 1942 He Was Appointed Maintenance Supertendent Of Central District Cpal. In May, 1942 He Transferred To Vancouver. He Retired From Position Of Director Of Maintenance And Engineering For Cpa In 1966 In Vancouver |

In 1925 He Was Selcted As Pilot To Fly For The Norwegian Naval Relief Expedition Looking For Amundsen Around Spitzbergen. In 1926 He Was Attached To The Amundsen Ellsworth Noble Transpolar Flight. In 1926 He Made A Flight With Floyd Bennett In A Tri- Fokker Plane Around The Usa Under The Auspices Of The Us Department Of Commerce For Boosting Commercial Aviation. In 1927 He Made A Transatlantic Flight With Commander R.E. Byrd In A Tri Motor Fokker. The Norwegian Born Airman Flew 15 Times Over The North Pole And Twice Over The South Pole. He Was Made A Citizen Of Usa By An Act Of Congress Which Also Awarded Him A Special Medal. He Helped Found The Scandinavian Airlines. During Ww Ii He Ran The Allies Secret Airline In Scandinavia And In The Soviet Union And Helped Evacuate 70,000 Russians From A Labour Camp There |

He Was Born In Carberry, Mb, On March 20, 1896. He Moved To Alberta With His Parents In 1903. He Received His Training As A Mechanic With Great West Motors In 1914. He Became A Machine Gun Instructor With The Candian Expeditionary Force At The Machine Gun School In 1916. By February 1917 He Was With The 202nd City Of Edmonton Battalion And Went Overseas As A Staff Sergeant. He Joined The Royal Flying Corps When He Reached France. In March 1918 He Reported To The 209th Squadron As A Fighter Pilot. On His First Combat Flight He Shot Down An Enemy Aircraft And On Returning Home With His Guns Jammed He Was Chased By German Ace, Baron Manfred Von Richthofen, Who Was Shot By Captain Roy Brown, An Old School Chum Of Wop'S. Wop Was Awarded The Dfc For Gallantry And Returned To Canada May 1919 After The War And Started A Commercial Aviation Company In Edmonton Called May Airplanes Ltd |

Dale Sidney Elden Atkinson, Pilot, Born In1894 In Thorold, On. He Was Raf Pilot In W W I, 32nd Squadron, France 1918. Western Canada Airways Hired Him As A Pilot In September 1927. He Left Wca In November 1930, And Became Manager Of The Winnipeg Flying Club In 1931. He Was Appointed Manager Of Starratt Airways Base At Hudson, On, In March 1936. He Remained With Starratt And Became Operations Manager. Then He Was Appointed Superintendent Of Central District Canadian Pacific Airlines In January 1942. He Became Superintendent Of Stores And Equipment With Headquarters In Winnnipeg. In January 1928, The Western Canada Airways Was Awarded A Contract To Deliver The Mail From Hudson (Rolling Portage Post Office) To Red Lake Via Gold Pines With One Trip Per Week Scheduled At Up To 400 Lbs. The Inaugural Trip Was Made By Dale Atkinson With A Load Of 588 Lbs Of Mail On January 25, 1928 |
